The Baltic Birch platform sits flush with the folded middle seats, and the platform plywood is approximately .7 inches thick, leaving around 2.3 inches of space beneath the platform. If you’re making plans to store gear underneath the platform, we recommend planning for a gap of 2 inches.

Is the BamBed necessary to use Luno’s 4Runner Air Mattress?

Nope, absolutely not! Many Luno campers build their own platforms, use foam padding or blankets to bridge the gap, or ignore it completely. The BamBed isn’t requisite by any means. Instead, it’s a drop-in solution for sleepers who are bothered by the gap and want a portable, professionally made sleeping platform.

By lifting your sleeping platform, the BamBed creates a two-inch slot underneath the bed that’s perfect for storing extra gear. We recommend using it to stash long, slim items like axes, trekking poles, etc. It isn’t a full-blown gear garage, but this nifty compartment boosts your gear-hauling capacity.
